Rental scams in Poland: red flags checklist
Common warning signs in listings and messages — and what to do before you send any money.
High-risk red flags
- Price is far below similar apartments in the same area.
- Pressure to pay quickly (“many people interested”, “pay today to reserve”).
- Refuses a viewing or claims to be abroad / proposes courier keys.
- Unusual payment requests (cash-only, crypto, money transfer services).
- Identity is unclear (no full name, inconsistent details, avoids verification).
- Photos look like hotel/stock photos or appear on multiple listings.
- Address is vague or keeps changing; avoids exact location.
- Asks for sensitive documents too early (e.g., full ID scan) without a clear reason.
What to do if you see red flags
- Don’t send money before a viewing and identity verification.
- Ask for a draft contract and confirm who is the landlord / authorized agent.
- Ensure bank account holder matches the contract party.
- Use Listing Check to summarize risk and generate questions to ask.
